Coming soon to a Library near you..

Fixing for a Future

@ East Lothian Libraries!

Free Sewing Skills drop-in sessions with our wonderful new team of volunteers!

Learn new skills, make new friends, save pennies and the planet!

At these regular 2 hour sessions, our exceptionally talented team will be offering support and advice in all things sewing, knitting and darning. You'll be able to get help with a project you're already working on or ask questions and get practical advice if you're not sure where to begin! All welcome!

Right from learning how to thread and care for your sewing machine to replacing zips, hemming curtains, visible (or invisible!) mending, darning socks and jumpers, alterations, you name it!

Fixing for a Future@ East Lothian Libraries will soon be starting at Haddington and Tranent libraries and in 2025 we'll be expanding to cover Port Seton, Ormiston, Dunbar, Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Longniddry and North Berwick!

Watch this space for our first dates!...

Join our Volunteer Team

Besides getting involved as a participant in one of our drop-in Sewing Skills sessions, there are opportunities to join our volunteer team!

We had our first volunteer meet-up yesterday at the John Gray Centre and will be having a further meet-up to develop our ideas next Thursday, 14th November 9.30-12.30 at the John Gray Centre.

Please email Rosie, fixingforafuture@gmail.com for more information and to sign up.

We're planning to recruit a large team to cover all East Lothian libraries so it really is the more the merrier!

Sewing Machine Donations

We're planning on stocking each Library with a set of sewing machines and a small Re-Use Hub of sewing supplies. If you have a spare sewing machine in working order (and not incredibly heavy!), and would like to donate it to an excellent cause, this new venture is it! Please email Rosie, fixingforafuture@gmail.com to arrange collection.

(Thanks to Laurie, our fabulous sewing machine repairer at our Repair Cafe, and Sheena, our sensational sewing tutor, we'll be able to keep any machines donated in great working order!)

We hope to see you at an East Lothian Library soon - as a volunteer, a participant in one of our drop-in sessions, or the generous donor of a sewing machine!
