Zelia Carreira Bowles of Coastal Creative Arts puts her ethos of 'make something you need from something you have' into practice, teaching us how to make a bath mat from old clothes.
Make a slip knot and chain 4 to start. Slip stitch into the first chain to form a loop.
Rnd 1 Start with 3 chains then, working into the loop, make 2 treble crochet stitches followed by 2 chain stitches. Make *3 treble stitches into the loop and then 2 more chains*. Repeat * two more times. To complete the square and join the beginning and end of the round together, we'll need to make a slip stitch into the 3rd chain we made at the beginning of the round. 1 sl into the next stitch and another sl stitch (pulling the new colour) to get to the corner.
Rnd 2
Chain 3 (this will make the first treble) Make 2 more treble crochets into the chain two space, chain two, 3 tr in same space. On the next chain two space, *3 tr, chain 2, 3 tr, chain 2*. Repeat from * to* on the next chain two spaces from previous row. Slip stitch into the 3rd chain we made at the beginning of the round. 1 sl into the next stitch and another sl stitch (pulling the new colour) to get to the corner.
Rnd 3 and from now on
The repeat pattern is emerging.
For the corners the pattern is the same 3tr, 2 ch, 3tr, 1 ch in the same chain 2 space from previous row.
For the middle area the pattern is 3tr, 1ch.
Add as many rows as you like to get the size you need.
Happy crafting!
